Ratio Studiorum (plan of studies) - The method
Tradition and renewal in the age of artificial intelligence
The medieval university did not limit itself to explaining and examining: it taught students to read, think, object, respond, and dispute. UCA Guadalupe draws on that tradition and renews it through the contributions of neuroscience and the possibilities of artificial intelligence. Each session combines explanation, practice, dialogue, and relearning, under the supervision of the instructor and with the student at the center.
The session is the unit
Each session becomes a dynamic learning experience.
With eight phases that integrate tradition, neuroscience, and artificial intelligence.
What sets us apart
From scholastic thought to twenty-first-century learning
Knowledge is acquired with the assistance of AI; education through personal relationships.
The AI-native Campus of UCA Guadalupe has all the effective elements for the transmission of knowledge. Authentic education takes place in moments of personal interaction between instructors and students and in the relationships among the students themselves.
The Disputatio concludes each topic
A genuine debate, with objections, replies, and a conclusion. The student defends their ideas, listens to objections, and learns to construct reasoned responses.
Personalized attention 24/7
UCA Guadalupe’s IACampus is available to its students at all times through a virtually assisted trained pedagogically. The assistant knows the student, the context of the topics, and the university’s methodology.
You learn "scholastically"
The method incorporates active engagement and progressive recall: each session alternates explanation, practice, and dialogue, and concludes with the retrieval of three essential ideas. These ideas then reappear in spaced reviews that strengthen memory and consolidate learning.
An example
This is what a disputed question looks like.
The structure is that of the Summa (summary): a question is posed, objections are raised, a response is given, and each objection is answered. One thing changes compared with the thirteenth century: between the objection and the response, you write.
Can a teacher cause knowledge in the disciple's soul?
Objection 1. It seems so, since the person who teaches produces knowledge where there was none before.
Objection 2. Moreover, a teacher is called a teacher precisely because he or she makes things known.
You answer: before reading the author's respondeo (response).
And artificial intelligence
Into an effective tool at the service of learning
AI is present on the UCA Guadalupe Campus as a powerful tool that assists instructors and students in the teaching and learning process. The use of artificial intelligence complies with the principles of the Rome Call and with applicable European and international regulations.
The use of AI is supervised by humans—the sessions, grades, degree programme, and so on. AI does not make decisions; it assists, personalizes, adapts, and enables the instructor to devote time to providing students with personal attention.
How we use artificial intelligenceCredits
European ECTS model
The entire system is organized according to the European ECTS model, including the university’s own degree programmes. Each session consists of one instructional hour plus one and a half hours of personal work; ten sessions constitute one credit. The university’s own degree programmes offer a fully adaptive and customizable system. Each student can choose their own learning path according to their interests. The university adapts to the student’s talents and interests, not the other way around.
Shall we look at it with a specific program?
Review the syllabus for our degree programs and see how a course unit is transformed into sessions, activities, disputationes (disputations), and evidence of learning. If you wish, we can provide you with personalized guidance.
