Why “of Guadalupe”
The name does not indicate a location: the seat is Toledo. It refers to Our Lady of Guadalupe, under whose patronage the University is placed and from whom it takes its way of being in the world—welcoming those who come from far away.
What the motto means
The phrase is from San Agustín — “beata quippe vita est gaudium de veritate” (for truly, the happy life is joy in truth), the happy life is joy in truth, in Book X of the Confessions — and it is taken up by Ex Corde Ecclesiae (from the heart of the Church), the apostolic constitution on Catholic universities, as the joy of seeking, discovering, and communicating the truth in every field of knowledge. It is not a Latin ornament: it is what is promised to those who study here.
Titles
University-specific credentials—and we say so here.
The titles awarded by this University are its own titles.
They are not official degrees within the State’s university system, and this website does not imply that anywhere. Anyone who completes a program receives a title from the University, with a public verification code that anyone can check against our records.
Stating it clearly is what makes the degree worth something: whoever receives it knows exactly what they have, and whoever verifies it does too.
Mission
Truth, Goodness, and Beauty.
The University seeks to educate people who are open to Truth, Goodness, and Beauty, in dialogue between faith and reason and in the light of the social doctrine of the Church.
It is addressed to anyone who wishes to study seriously, whatever their starting point, and respects each person’s freedom of conscience: here, the Catholic tradition is presented naturally and without proselytism, and other positions are presented honestly.
Artificial Intelligence
Adhering to the Rome Call for AI Ethics.
The University adheres to the Rome Call for AI Ethics, promoted by the Pontifical Academy for Life, and to its six principles:
This is not a statement of intent: the platform is built so that no grade, title, or lesson depends on an automatic decision without a person validating it.
